Unscripted Bal Harbour held another interesting Art Chat on April 28th, 2016, at the St. Regis Hotel in Bal Harbour. A full house came out to hearMr. Franklin Sirmans, the director of the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), and a curator, writer and educator, interview world renown artist, Teresita Fernandez.

The residents of Bal Harbour are very fortunate to have these “art experiences” throughout the year. The guests were treated to cocktails before they sat down for an informative and interesting evening. Artist Teresita is best known for her prominent public sculptures. Her work is often inspired by a rethinking of landscape, place, and diverse historical and cultural references. Her work is characterized by an interest in perception and the psychology of looking. She uses many unconventional materials in her sculptures. She calls her work, “abstracting the landscape”, and it’s reflected on a grand scale. Nothing is fixed about one composition. She has no rules, but to reimagine a subject matter that is constantly changing.

Ms. Fernandez was born in Miami in 1968 and lives and works in New York. She has had many solo exhibitions and been featured in the new Museum of Contemporary Art, as well as in Philadelphia, Spain, Washington, Santa Fe, Torino Italy, Rotterdam, and in the Whitney. She has won numerous awards and fellowships in the US and abroad, and has been commissioned by MoMA, the Museum of Contemporary Art, St. Louis Art Museum, Miami Art Museum, and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery,to name a few. Recently, she had a wonderful exhibit in Madison Square Park in New York.

Thank you to Unscripted Bal Harbour for an enjoyable evening.
