Bakehouse Brasserie, MiamiThe latest venture from the Menin Hospitality group is a new Parisian-style eatery at 808 1st street, called Bakehouse Brasserie (CLOSED). It happens to be one of the most beautiful and vibrant restaurants in Miami designed by Peter Oleck, I was told it is the second most expensive design/build restaurant in Miami, per square foot. You can see this in the detailing and construction as well as the decor. The 77 seat restaurant has white and copper lighting with brown leather banquets, high detailed ceilings, copper decorative accents and large picture windows to bring in lots of natural light. There is a welcoming bar, a grab and go counter to drool over and a view into the busy kitchen. There is also a sprinkling of seats outside.

The restaurants is open daily from 7 am till 5 pm and they serve an all-day brunch. Who doesn’t love brunch? They serve coffee, breakfast, lunch and afternoon treats. I decided to do mid-week as I had heard weekend brunches are packed – they play live music and you may have to wait for a table. I went on a Monday afternoon. The place was relatively quiet and a real relaxing oasis. The menu is divided into breakfast items served from 7-10am. Brunch from 10am-5pm. There is everything from egg dishes, salads, benedicts, quiche of the day, burgers, sandwiches and bagel platters. The main plate section has things like croissant French toast, pancakes, Faroe island salmon, mussels and steak and frites or steak and eggs. You can also enjoy a bottomless mimosa, champagne, frozen rose or an assortment of coffee beverages. There is a cornucopia of things to choose from. And of course for me the most important, the bakery selections. Muffins, cookies, tarts, cinnamon buns, croissants, pies, cakes, brownies, and gorgeous chocolates. The selection is outstanding. There really is something for everyone.

I tried the baby kale salad, with bourbon apricots, green apples, shaved red onion and blue cheese, tossed in an olive oil and balsamic glaze. You can top any salad with a choice of egg, tofu, chicken, shrimp or salmon if you wish. The avocado toast here is a great version, in part because of the sweet charred cherry tomatoes and lovely lemon Basil dressing on the salad, served on a multi-grained toast.

Bakehouse Brasserie happens to serve the best cinnamon roll I have ever had, a maple bacon version. They also do a cinnamon one as well. They give you a very generous serving, which is a good thing, otherwise I would be too selfish to share – it is that good. They make a lovely key lime pie, but Joe’s doesn’t have to worry, as they still reign supreme in that department. The s’mores cookie also looks and tastes amazing. Everything tastes so fresh. That is because everything is made fresh each morning. The leftovers go on sale for half price between 3-5.

I met Bernie Matz, Menin’s culinary director. He was happy to share some details with me. The chef is Steve Frank and the wonder kid pastry chef is Tatiana Vernot. My hats off to you Tatiana, you knock it out of the park.

There is a menu of daily specials and a happy hour every day as well.

I couldn’t be happier now that this 3 1/2-month-old establishment has opened. Well, I would be happier if they were opened during dinner hour. Who doesn’t love brunch for dinner?

Recommended.

Happy dining,
Shanea
