You know how sometimes you crave a simple meal, you don’t feel like getting dressed up and you just want something good but unfussy, well I would like to suggest Blue Collar on 6730 Biscayne.
It’s a nice neighborhood spot, a working class kind of joint located in the Miami Shores area. The small restaurant holds about 20 people inside and another 20 outside. Decorated with metal lunch pails lined up on the grey walls, the seating is tightly spaced and you might get to talking with your neighbours. The acoustics aren’t great and it gets rather loud inside. We could barely hear the soundtrack playing.
Known for serving American comfort food, the owner and Chef, Daniel Serfer, used to be chef de cuisine at Joe Allens. On the menu you will find a brisket sandwich, shrimp and grits, a burger, spare ribs, short ribs, pork and beans with a fried egg on top, pot roast, pork shoulder, mahi mahi, latkes, etc.
What I love is his huge choice of vegetables. This is great for people who always ask where to go that has good veggie options. There are too many choices to mention, but one choice cost $6 or I went the 4 choices for $19 route and I was not disappointed. I had the grilled mushrooms, asparagus with blue cheese, the grilled artichokes and the cheese grits which were wonderful. It was satisfying and filling. I found the mac and cheese to be okay but honestly I make a better one at home. It is large enough for 4 people to share as an appetizer.
Every night they have a “parm” choice. Last night there were 2 choices, chicken parm and grilled artichoke parm. My companion opted for the artichoke parm on a bed of tomato spaghetti squash. This was an innovative creation and very tasty. The apps are under $10 and the mains are no more than $20, so it is a good value price point here. For dessert there was a key lime pie, chocolate cake and a lovely bread pudding. They serve Panther coffee too.
I have been coming here since it first opened. It has honest American comfort food, selling at affordable prices. What a concept.
