Whenever I am shopping in the Miami Design District I almost always make a quick stop to 3930 NE 2nd Avenue, to have lunch at celebrity super chef, Michelle Bernstein‘s bakery/cafe, Crumb on Parchment. I know the food will be fresh, the food will be good and I will be out quickly, giving me more shopping time.

The space is a little hidden inside the atrium of a building. You come in, place your order and take a seat on one of the rustic tables or sofas. When the food is ready they bring it to you, or if they are busy you get your own beeper and it buzzes when your food is ready. It is a very pleasant space in a sunlit rotunda.

The food is actually quite good. I opted for my usual – one of the best turkey sandwiches ever. It’s grilled and served on tasty a pretzel bread with cheddar cheese and lettuce. You used to get it with a choice of sides such as fruit, quinoa or chips, but they just served me chips today. I am not sure if they have that option anymore, you have to ask. There are other great sandwich choices, like; grilled cheese, roast beef, meatball, ahi tuna, and more. They also serve quiche and wonderful salads such as kale, which you can top with tuna or grilled chicken. Or they offer Greek with tuna, or quinoa salad. Everyday there is a homemade soup such as tomato, cauliflower or tortilla.

Make sure you leave room for dessert, or at least take some home with you. I had the enormous chocolate chip cookie that is crisp on the outside and ooey-gooey on the inside with melted chocolate. There is a different assortment every day of cookies, brownies, blondies, pies and cakes as well as croissants. Michelle’s mother makes some of the cakes and I believe they also use many of her recipes. They serve coffee, iced tea and have free wifi (the code is on the blackboard).

She also does a pop up at Art Basel every year across from the convention centre and at Dolphin’s games at Sun Life Stadium.

This is a cute gem of a place that serves fresh homemade food in the Design District.

Recommend.

Happy dining,
Shanea
