Miami’s Design District was once a bunch of run down and derelict stores and warehouses. Now it is being transformed into an upscale area with shops and restaurants to match. One store in particular has blown me away with its design, quality of workmanship and beauty, and that is the Christian Dior boutique at 162 NE 39th Street.

I have never seen Miami with a store so beautifully designed, with such rich interiors and innovative pieces of art within. For me Christian Dior has always been a visionary and one of France’s best designers. Now he has a store in North America that befits his luxury goods.

They tell me the stores lengthy renovations were three years in the making and I can see why. Designer Peter Marino and Barbarito Bancel Architects have created the most stunning 3 story boutique. The store’s interior is a take on Dior’s iconic and glamorous mothership on Avenue Montaingue in Paris. But I find that store a little more traditional, whereas Miami’s much more contemporary. The soft grey hues that each store uses are the same, but the Design District uses the most fabulous fabrics, materials and commissioned artworks from several contemporary artists. When you first walk in the store you see an aluminum bench by Terrace Man which is the main focal point on the main floor, it is surrounded by the brands signature handbags, accessories, fine jewelry and watches. For me the video art piece was a masterpiece and as you ascend the staircase to the second floor you are mesmerized by artist Oyoran’s continuous loop of colourful images that change all day long. It is visually stunning.

The details like the large dressing rooms with wall to wall pony carpet, and textured wallpapers are very comfortable. The showrooms lamps, carpets, flooring and tables are so tasteful and luxurious befitting of Dior’s haute designs. This store compliments Miami’s burgeoning art and design scene. And by the way I love the clothes too, although they were a little low on their stock the day I visited. The staff is friendly and not snobby at all, which is probably due to the boutiques director Ariel Filartiga who is running a tight ship. I was told there is a third floor rooftop where you can visit and have a drink. I wasn’t privy to this on my visit, but I can only imagine it is just as glamorous as the rest of the store.

Christian Dior would be proud at how truly perfect and in line his new store is with his beautiful luxury brand.

Highly recommend.
