I love the area of Roncesvalles Avenue with all the cute shops and restaurants. It almost has that small town feel to it. Recently when I was wondering around I found a relatively new, quaint place called Fantail Bakery & Café at 333 Roncesvalles Avenue. It is family owned and operated by a New Zealand family. It is decorated with vintage wallpaper and art nouveau style chandeliers. All the vintage plates are mismatched. The display cases are brimming with a mouthwatering selection of creative treats, like individual carrot cakes, bread puddings and flourless chocolate cakes. There are also lemon squares, scones, croissants, filled cinnamon brioche, lemon poppy seed cookies, and meringues. They rotate different desserts daily.

Plus there is savoury fare as well such as individual size frittata, salads and homemade sandwiches. They serve lattes, and espressos and there is quite a bit of seating inside, so you can relax with your cup of coffee and a treat. There is a heavenly scent coming from the back kitchen when you enter. Everything is baked on the premises except the breads, which come from the Drake Hotel. They use quality ingredients and also serve vegan, organic and gluten-free options as well as direct trade coffee.

Fantail has a warm comfortable atmosphere – it’s a perfect neighborhood spot. The community is so fortunate to have them.

Happy dining,
Shanea
