Every Tuesday night from 5:30-9:30pm year-round you can picnic under the stars at Haulover Park just North of Bal Harbour, Florida, 10800 Collins Avenue.

The food truck phenomenon has been raging in Florida for years now, and Bal Harbour, Surfside and North Miami have embraced them.

Are you coming here to eat gourmet food, no. But, if you are looking for great family fun, where the kids can run around in a big open space and jump in blow up slides and dine alfresco, you can’t get much better than this. The parking is free and there is a DJ spinning tunes. You can pull up by boat as well.

You can get everything from grilled cheese, and burgers and fries to fish tacos and lobster rolls. Even French crepes. There are smoothie trucks, corn trucks, fresh cut mango trucks and gelato trucks. I have seen a better caliber of trucks in Wynwood or the Hollywood circle, but no place is better for being in the great outdoors, where you can dance, fly your kite (there is a kite store that stays open late on Tuesdays) or jump in a bouncy castle (but beware they charge $10 a head for that).

You will see all types of people, but everyone is friendly. They supply tables and chairs but you need to come early to secure a space. I recommend bringing a blanket or some folding chairs.

Also, look for the kite festival held here every February, with bands, rides, food trucks, contests and hundreds of kites, it is a lot of family fun.

Recommend.

Happy dining,
Shanea
