I found a place that serves monster size desserts for the serious sweet tooth. Hollywood Cone at 1167 Queen Street West in Toronto, is dishing out some extravaganza creations that are definitely Instagram worthy.

They originally had an ice cream truck before turning into an ice cream chain with locations in Oshawa, Whitby and Toronto.

The store is designed like a movie theater, where the menu is lit up with marquee lights, you order at a counter that looks like a concession stand. There is a red carpet, albeit a dirty one, movie seats and a working Zoltar fortune telling machine. There is even a wall perfect for taking selfies and instagram pictures.

The ice cream is soft serve (my favourite), and comes in vanilla, chocolate or swirl. Choose your flavour, cup or cone and then choose your topping from a huge list. There is a surcharge for premium toppings. I can’t mention them all, but there are things like salted caramel, Reese’s Pieces, chocolate crunch, cookies n cream, s’mores, strawberry shortcake, Ferrero Rocher, birthday cake, pop rocks, caramel corn, cheesecake, and on an on. There are also mutant milkshakes, cones, ice cream floats, shakes, topped with donuts, or brownies and titanic banana splits for sharing. Obviously, kids would enjoy it here, but prices are on the high side. You also have to be patient and wait for your creation. They screwed up 2 out of three of our orders too.

Personally, I’m not one for these over the top desserts. I am more of a soft serve aficionado. There’s is pretty good here. They make theirs with real milk fat and not whipped oil. The result is a creamy and tasty texture. A small cake cone cost $5 for a generous serving. Now when I get a craving I don’t have to drive all the way to Tom’s Dairy Freeze in Etobicoke for my fix.

Happy dining,
Shanea
