Miami is heating up, and what a better way to cool off and indulge, then by stopping by this brand new artisanal ice cream shop, Icy-N-Spicy at 1250 Ocean Drive. If you can snag a parking spot on this crazy busy street, you will be delighted with this creative and playful shop. Located in the lobby of the historical Art Deco Carlyle hotel, come in to check out the Asian and European influenced treats. The shop is run and owned by a married team, husband Dejan Isailovic and his beautiful wife, Xiaoli Liu. They couldn’t be more welcoming and helpful taking us through their menu. Their creations are colourful and playful, as is their adorable corner shop. Filled with balloons, artwork, and a vibrancy of colours, it is aesthetically pleasing.

They offer 16 flavours of gelato and nitrogen ice cream, with a plethora of toppings, from mochi’s to gummies, candied sunflowers, gold leaf, sprinkles and so on. I came for the Japanese mochi, served on a stick, lollipop style, dipped in my choice of chocolate and then sprinkled with my choice of toppings. The mochi were perfectly tempered, with a choice of ten flavours, like lychee, matcha, hazelnut, salted caramel, pistachio, mandarin, passion fruit and strawberry. Another great choice was a frozen banana on a stick, that you coat and then top. I didn’t have a chance to try their French Macarons, ten flavours, one piece for $2.80, or two at $5.

There is an array of beverages, from soft drinks to juices, iced teas, coffees, and designer waters.
Icy-N-Spicy is a real crowd pleaser. Friendly, artistic, reasonably priced, and they will let you sample the ice cream flavours. I can’t think of a better spot to stop and cool off with a sweet, cold treat, while you stroll the beach or boardwalk.

Happy dining,
Shanea
