Completed in 1923, the beloved La Mamounia is still a place of elegance and relaxation for discerning travelers. It is without a doubt the grand dame of Marrakech. It was recently closed for a three-year renovation (reopened in 2008), the 8th in its almost 100-year history. Now under the watchful eye of Director General Pierre Jochem, this legendary hotel is still steeped in history and refurbished to a high standard. Its service optimizes Moroccan hospitality.

From the moment you walk in the door the air is scented with orange blossom and jasmine. Check-in is done in a living room area off the main lobby. You are greeted with the most aromatic and flavourful almond milk, scented with orange blossom, and a plate of sweet dates. The staff was professional and welcoming. We were shown to an elaborate Moroccan style suite, overlooking the large pool and gardens. The property is on 17 acres of groomed parkland, with citrus trees and rose bushes, with views of the Atlas Mountains in the distance, and you would never know you were a 15-20 minute walk from the bustling Medina, and across from The cities oldest Mosque and around the corner from a busy square. You feel like you are miles away from the hustle of the streets. The hotel has 209 guest rooms and suites plus three 3-bedroom riads on the property. There is a high guest to staff ratio to take care of your needs.

This is a full-service resort with tennis courts, a huge gym, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and a luxurious 27,000 square foot spa of sheer decadence with guided columns and arches. There are 4 restaurants on the property, a Moroccan, Italian, French and poolside to choose from. The food is surprisingly good. They offer a large buffet at breakfast with a variety for everyone. The best shopping of Marrakech is found in the hotel (with the exception of the jewelry store at the Royal Mansour).

International guests from around the world frequent the hotel, as well as celebrities, politicians, and royals. Churchill used to winter here.

It is hard to tear yourself away from the pool to tour the city as this is a real intoxicating haven for guests. The hotel is iconic and opulent and you will be ensured a most luxurious stay.

Highly Recommend.

Happy Travels,
Shanea
