La Marea is a small restaurant we tried on our first night in Puglia. It’s a local spot for those staying at Borgo Egnazia at Via Accademia di Livorno, which is a five-minute drive away. There are no taxis in this part of the country, so if you don’t rent a car, you are at the mercy of the hotel, which will still cost you 30 Euros to drive there.

It is a family-run seafood restaurant, with a simple ambiance befitting the area. Seats on the terrace seem to be reserved for tourists, and the locals seem to be relegated indoors.

Stick with a local wine which is actually quite good, and they will recommend something to go with your branzino, seafood pasta or seafood crudo. They serve delicious focaccia to each table which is a local specialty. The food is “rustic” Italian and quite nice. It is a close-by alternative if you want to eat somewhere close to Borgo Egnazia. It won’t blow your socks off but it is pleasant enough and worthy of this mini-review.

Happy dining,
Shanea
