Another restaurant that opened during the pandemic in Miami is La Natural at 7289 NW 2nd Avenue in Miami’s Little River neighborhood. Literally on the wrong side of the tracks, in a once sketchy area that is slowly becoming more redeveloped just south of those tracks. But owners Javier Ramirez (co-owner of Palmer restaurant) and his wife Andreina Matos, have created a lovely little spot that is warm, welcoming, appealing, and authentic. With about 37 seats indoors and another 16 seats outdoors, the garage doors give you that inside/outside feel, perfect during a pandemic. The spaces features concrete floors, wicker chairs, blond wood tables, ceiling fans, and an inviting bar at the back, with bowls of coconuts, papaya, and pineapples on top.

They chose the perfect name for their new restaurant too, calling it La Natural. They serve a personal size, uncut, sourdough, naturally leavened pizza that goes through a 48 hour cold fermentation and the results are a perfect crust that doesn’t leave you feeling heavy or overly-full. They finish it in a wood fire oven. The toppings are light and healthy but very delicious. The menu heavily focuses on vegetables and fruit-based dishes that are mostly locally sourced from an organic farm in Homestead. The Japanese sweet potato, an item you are seeing more and more of on Miami menus is out of this world. The skins are crispy, and the potato rested on a salted brown butter sauce, sprinkled with toasted buckwheat. This dish had a perfect ying and yang – salty and sweet, crunchy and creamy. I also enjoyed something I’ve never had before, a Mexican zucchini served raw, served over a pesto of pumpkin seed and balsamico. The baby kale, gem lettuce salad was light and served with freshly pressed vegetable tomatillo vinaigrette. The salad had so many components to it. Some might miss the absence of olive oil or fat, but I found it to be very fresh tasting and it was a rarity not to have my salad drenched in dressing. There are about 10-12 small plates like this on offer. They only serve natural wines as well (I’m not a fan) that go along with the theme of healthful, as well as mountain valley spring waters from Arkansas.

For now, there was only one dessert on offer, and my husband gave it his approval. It was a chocolate tahini tart, made with things like almonds, dates, maple, etc.

They play nice background music. It made for a relaxing and enjoyable evening, even though it was a very family-friendly spot.

All in all, I was happily content. La Natural uses a purity of ingredients, and seasonality that is palate-pleasing. The people, food, music, and environment makes for a pleasant evening.

There is no-tipping here, they adhere to a fair wage policy.

Recommended.
Happy dining,
Shanea
