Milan is the commercial and financial center of Italy. It also boasts one of the world’s most spectacular Gothic cathedrals plus a wealth of masterpieces. It is known for its Lombardian cuisine but I am hard-pressed to name more than a few favourite restaurants. Well, I tried a seafood restaurant that I found a real revelation. Langosteria Restaurant offers perhaps some of the best fish and crustaceans I have ever had. Apparently, this is the original and most upscale location of a seafood empire for this company. Located at Via Savona 10, the establishment is not what it seems. Looking smallish from the outside, when the doorman lets you in, it becomes a labyrinth of 6 rooms as you move deeper inside, and they have a seating capacity of over 100. We sat in the front room that seats 22. It felt cozy, chic and intimate. The restaurant had a great scene of fashionable guests. The lighting was soft, the seating was comfortable, the ambiance was sophisticated and the service was attentive, friendly and informative.

We were relieved to receive an English menu so we could really explore each dish with confidence. You can choose from oysters, seafood towers, crudo, ceviche, sashimi and tartare. There is a number of seafood and pasta dishes, and a large selection of catch of the day. It was overwhelming because everything sounded so good. Our server suggested “The First Time With Us” menu, which contained small portions of their signature dishes. We received 6 outstanding dishes for 90 Euros. What was astonishing, was that each and every course was perfection. From the tomato bread soup with sautéed clams, to the langoustine tartare with foie gras and Sauternes reduction, which I still drool when I think about it. Followed by the most tender and sweet seafood salad, and then a course of Catalana style king crab. Then, a pasta course of orecchiette with chickling and seafood. The meal ended with a bowl of refreshing and light iced fruit ice creams. Every single dish was meticulously prepared, and flawlessly and expertly cooked. They used the freshest ingredients of the highest quality. You really could taste the difference.

They offer a large, well-articulated wine book, with a mixture of titled and niche wines, with some very interesting choices. Our server had some great recommendations to go along with our tasting menu.

You know you’ve found an outstanding restaurant when you can’t wait to return on your next visit.

Highly recommend.

Happy dining,
Shanea
