Nadege Patisserie which first opened on Queen Street West was always a destination for me and not very convenient, yet I did like the fact that you could eat in with a cup of coffee and relax without necessarily taking home your purchase. About four years ago Nadege opened another location in a more centrally located spot for me and I rejoiced. Nadege is at 1099 Yonge Street in the Rosedale/
Summerhill area. It is housed in a heritage building, one of the “Five Thieves”, named for the shops’ high prices but top quality foods. The design features exposed brick walls and neutral colours in the tiny and narrow shop, all the better to make their gorgeous pastry pop.

“It combines the art of French pastry with a fresh and modern panache”.

Nadege Nourian and her partner Morgan McHugh have a passion for French pastry and it led them to open their shops. The Yonge Street shop is small and cute, but they are able to beautifully display their great selections of cakes, cookies, macarons, chocolate bars, fluffy marshmallows, truffles, croissants, and sandwiches. The Yonge Street location has nowhere to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee with a rich snack. It is only take home, if you can get that far without eating it first.

The pastries are sinfully rich in flavour because they are French, natch! You know … lots of butter and love. I prefer their sweet treats over their savoury items. The sandwiches look lovely but could stand a little more filling.

They are known for their macarons which come in a wide variety of flavours. They are dainty, beautiful and difficult to master but they do an excellent job.

The shop offers perfect hostess gifts or favours, or you can just treat yourself. The chocolate almond croissants are my husbands favourite, but I am more partial to the canelé, which are crispy on the outside and custard-like on the inside. They are sinfully delicious. All the pastry are like little jewels, beautifully crafted and showcased edible art. Toronto you will fall in love. If this shop is not close to where you live, don’t dispair, they have launched an online boutique so you can still indulge.

Highly Recommend.

Happy dining,
Shanea
