Ni.Do. Caffé (CLOSED) first opened about five years ago in the MiMo area of Miami to rave reviews. I loved the food and the casual ambience there. However when I ate there several months ago it wasn’t up to its typical high standards. So it was with trepidation that I tried the new location at 11052 Biscayne Blvd.

It had a few pluses going for it right away. The location is more convenient and I don’t have to fight traffic going south to the 70’s and there is free parking in the back.

So apparently NiDo means there is no tomorrow so live in the present. That is a pretty cool mantra. It also makes it easier to justify having a high carb and high fat dinner.

The menu is larger at this location. In addition to the Mozzarella bar, there are more pasta offerings and this location also had pizza and focaccia on the menu. The food is very traditional, offering antipasti, fromaggi and salumi, various salads, and fish and meat dishes.

We tried the burrata with Tartufo, which was accompanied with green olives, cherry tomatoes and some caponata. The quality of the cheese was quite good.

For our mains we had 2 pasta dishes. One was orrechetti with mushrooms,  and sausage in a rich mascarpone sauce. It was a little too rich for me. Instead I preferred the spaghetti with shrimps, mussels, clams, calamari and scallops in a fresh tomato sauce.

We were too full to try any of the other dishes so I can’t comment on them. I would have liked to see how the pizza and fish were.

For dessert the menu offered panna cotta, limoncello cake (that sounds good),crostatas and ice creams etc.

I liked the space better at this location. The room is larger, brighter and they space the tables well so you are not on top of one another. They play beautiful background music and make it easy to have a conversation.

The restaurant is charming, unassuming and casual. There are no surprises here, but the food is simple and fresh and it is a cute neighborhood establishment.

Hi: We were just at NiDo with Venezuelan neighbors and had the same impressions you did. But nothing will beat the setting we had when we boated across the lake from the Oberoi for dinner with the two of you. We have really enjoyed your reviews and have shared them with friends.
