Judging from our experience tonight, the New Nobu Eden Roc will be one of Miami’s new ” Hot Spots” to dine at. The restaurant is located inside the Iconic Landmark Eden Roc Hotel at 4525 Collins. The new Nobu is an improvement in looks from the Shore Club or even the New York restaurant. It has a refined minimalist décor, with a large capacity of 400 seats inside as well as its outside portion. The Shore Club was beginning to look quite dumpy so I am glad they moved. However the servers there were extremely knowledgeable, friendly and professional. They have only been open a short 5 weeks and they seemed to be filled to just about capacity. This may have something to do with it being a Saturday night during Art Basel weekend. It was a real scene. The wait staff seemed to have trouble handling this capacity crowd. The service was slow and uneven. They had some kinks they still need to iron out. But, with that being said, the meal was quite good.

All the signature dishes that made Nobu famous are on the menu. The Black Cod Miso, the Rock Shrimp Tempura with creamy spicy sauce etc. We also enjoyed the New style Sashimi with Salmon and one with Scallops. (Although the Salmon was on the salty side and the dish usually comes a little warmer.) We really enjoyed the Salmon Sashimi with Asian pear, which was a delicate and tasty dish. Also the roasted Brussel Sprouts were fantastic. The Artichoke salad was good, but I miss the older version done in a Truffle oil. All the sushi was good, but again I miss the roll with the cucumber wrap, I hope they get that here. I also used to enjoy the nightly specials at the original Nobu at the Shore Club. The new Nobu served a Brick oven roasted Octopus that was our big disappointment. It was salty and sour tasting and not to our liking. The portions on everything are quite small, better suited to two people sharing rather than 4 people. But if you order enough, you get a small taste of everything. (Am I imagining it or were the Tempura Rock shrimp the size of the old half portion?) Please note the prices are sky high and not for the faint of heart.

But I predict this dimly lit, sexy, hipster upscale new restaurant in the Eden Roc will be a big success.

Recommended.

Happy dining.
