Yonge and Summerhill is full of cute little neighbourhood restaurants. A favourite of mine is Quanto Basta. It is a small narrow room with a tiny kitchen and bar as part of the action. The owner and servers are friendly and make you feel like you are eating in their home. The menu has a lot of great choices and there are daily specials as well. Sunday night has a very reasonable special of Spaghetti and meatballs for $12. That is hard to beat anywhere. The soup special on my night was a lentil and mushroom soup with a vegetable stock. It was such a rich tasting stock you didn’t miss any meat. I always seem to order the grilled mushroom salad, on a bed of Arugula, topped with cheese and a fried quail egg, because it never disappoints. The pappardelle bolognese is also a dish rich in flavours and very satisfying. I also recommend the Cornish Hen.

This quaint little restaurant is also open for lunch and weekend brunch and I think I will have to check that out as well.

They have a very nice wine selection, and they have that great system for opening some very good bottles and preserving them. This way you can get something like Tignanello by the glass. This is good for someone like me who can never finish a bottle when dining for two.

This is a great “go to” place when you want a simple, delicious meal.

Recommended.

Happy dining,
Shanea
