The Faena Forum, Miami
A new venue dedicated to the development of cultural programming has opened in Miami. Created by hotelier and real estate developer, Alan Faena, the Faena Forum, is nearly 50,000 square feet with a capacity of 1,000 people. The complex is located at 33rd and Collins, directly across from the beach. This once sleepily area of Miami is being transformed and rehabilitated, thanks to the visionary efforts of Alan Faena. This cultural enterprise will focus on the art scene, sciences, technology and urbanism. There will be names from the arts, media, fashion, music, entertainment, sports and philanthropy worlds holding events here. They will host parties and lectures. The large, flexible spaces are designed to accommodate different events like concerts, art showings, parties, culinary happenings and dance performances – just to name a few of the things that will be going on here.

Madonna was one of the first to perform for a fundraiser there, with friends like Sean Penn, Chris Rock, Ariana Grande, Courtney Love, David Blaine, and Dave Chapelle. The evening I attended was hosted by James Corden and raised $7.5 million for Madonna’s charity, Raising Malawi. There was also a parade and party with local performers for the opening.

Mr. Faena is actually developing the overall, “Faena District”, which will run six blocks at an estimated cost of 1 billion dollars. A true visionary, he is turning this once defunct area into a new Miami landmark district. He has redefined the area into a cultural, residential, retail, hotel and public environment. The Forum is the centerpiece of the new district, functionally and visually.

Now Miami doesn’t have to wait for its annual art week. The Faena Forum will host a wide range of happenings throughout the year within the absolutely dazzling 21-century cultural center.
