One of the hardest tables to book in New York last year was the Ralph Lauren Polo Bar on 1 East 55th St.
We were happy to grab a 10:30pm reservation, which worked out perfectly after our Broadway play. As you descend down the stairs into the dining room everyone turns to see who is entering this “clubby” restaurant. Is it a celebrity or a tycoon or politician? It is all fun to see this high society, fashionable crowd in this beautifully decorated restaurant. After all RALPH Lauren got the decor right to a tee. It is beautiful and tasteful, with dark woods, caramel leather and green tartan pillows. There are portraits everywhere of horses and polo players.
The food is pretty good too in case you are interested. We had the burger and fries cooked to perfection. The Shrimp Cocktail was enormous and was like a meal itself. The Cheesecake for dessert gave just the right amount of comfort.
The location is so good I wish the place was open for lunch but I guess they want to maintain a certain clientele. We left at 11:30 pm and the place was still hopping.
