I am a huge fan of Michael Mina‘s restaurants. He always seems to know what people want, great food and equally matched service. Strip Steak is no exception to this rule.

The restaurant was the former Gotham Steakhouse dining room in the Fountainbleau Hotel. It is a huge space located on two floors. Upstairs is more of a lounge but you can eat here as well. I prefer the downstairs dining room.

We started our meal with some addictive Parker House type rolls with a black truffle butter. We looked over the extensive wine list. We all wanted something different, no problem, they offer great wines by the glass and they even have a special system where you can enjoy top quality wines by the glass! We were all very happy.

They are known for their dry aged beef dipped in butter and then kissed on the grill. The steaks are exceptional but this is not their only strength.

For appetizers we enjoyed a varied selection from shrimp cocktail with saffire gin and horseradish to a wonderful escarole salad with marcona almonds, wolf berries, and apple in a wonderful yuzu maple dressing. I have got to get the recipe for this dressing. The Maine lobster duo which was split and dressed with lemon and sea salt was tender and tasty.

The 8oz filet was cooked to perfection. It is one of the best steaks I have had in years. There are choices on the menu for non meat eaters as well. The yellowtail snapper poached in olive oil was lovely. A standout dish was the truffled mac and cheese. It is SO decadent. There are a number of excellent side dishes and sauces to accompany your meal if you so choose.

For dessert a “must order” is the warm bread pudding in a sweet – salty caramel sauce served with a maple bourbon ice cream. It serves a table of six. The deep dish apple pie is also a beautiful thing.

The service was outstanding from the moment we walked in to the restaurant, to our waiter Sean, our busboys, captain, sommelier and so on. There is no attitude which is a rarity in Miami and no up selling. There is no waiting for your table, they honour your reservation time (Prime 112 take note).

However the bill here is not for the weak of heart.

StripSteak is a steak lovers dream with excellent food matched by equally excellent service.

Recommended.

Happy dining,
Shanea
