Cha Cha Cha Miami brings its vibrant take on modern Mexican cuisine to the city via its sister location in Los Angeles (soon to close) and its original home in Mexico City. It has taken over the former space of the much-loved Beaker and Gray at 2637 N. Miami Avenue. From the outside, it’s easy to walk right past it—the façade is dark, the signage subtle, and it almost looks as if the restaurant hasn’t opened yet. Step inside, however, and the transformation is striking. What was once a moody, casual room is now bright, colorful, and energetic, dressed in warm golds and creams that immediately set the tone.
The menu channels barrio-inspired hospitality through an upscale, modern lens, offering a strong lineup of small plates alongside a handful of mains. Traditional techniques are respected, with a particular emphasis on the seafood of Baja California. Expect ceviches, crudos, oysters, tacos, brochetas, and a mix of fish and meat dishes. The guacamole is enriched with pieces of pork belly and paired with excellent house-made crispy corn chips. This is not a shy kitchen when it comes to heat; the hamachi tostada delivered a noticeable picante kick, while the shrimp ceviche was generously packed with fresh shrimp and layered with bold, confident flavors.
Among the mains, the Brochetas al Pastor featured two large skewers of pork shoulder with pineapple, red onion, and cherry tomatoes, served alongside black beans, saffron rice, and homemade tortillas. While the flavors were spot on, the pork leaned slightly chewy. Overall, the cooking is punchy, spicy, and expressive, clearly aiming to be a cozy, neighborhood-style destination rather than a formal dining experience.
The bar leans heavily into mezcal and tequila, offering plenty of options for agave lovers. The kitchen is led by chef Daniel Saavedra, formerly of the Los Angeles Cha Cha Cha. In a city flooded with new openings, it’s refreshing to see something that isn’t another Italian restaurant or steakhouse. Instead, Cha Cha Cha Miami delivers vibrant Mexican flavors in a lively setting with friendly hospitality.
Open Tuesday through Sunday for dinner from 5 to 11 p.m.
Happy dining,
