I really can’t remember ever seeing Bal Harbour Shops prepare for an event like this. For two weeks the front parking lot was closed and preparations were under way to build a huge stage to carry what looked by my estimate to hold about 2,000 patrons. Bal Harbour Shops I was told doesn’t close for just anybody or anything. This was a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the mall and the 30th anniversary of the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. These two major institutions paired up for an inclusive fundraising event. This event sold out very quickly and there was a lot of hype about it. Fortunately the rain held off, I am not sure if they even had a plan B in place.
March 5 was the night this all took place. Neiman Marcus had a fashion show by Brunello Cucinelli showcasing his Spring 2016 collection. For those who could not get tickets to the sold-out dinner, there was still indulgent cocktail stations, hors d’oeuvres, interactive installations, music and the stores remained open until 10. However, I found the stores to be rather quiet, everyone wanted to party outside. And let me tell you, the evening held lots of surprises. The organizers really outdid themselves, there was so much going on. It was a who’s who of celebrities, philanthropic icons, business leaders, fashionistas and exhibitionists. The people watching was off the charts. The evening was co-hosted by Gloria and Emilio Estefen, Tommy Lee Jones and his wife Dawn, and Christian Slater and his wife Brittany.
The musical guest was Pitbull, Mr. 305 himself, and his hour-long performance was off the charts. It seemed like everyone was dancing and swaying to his rapping and Latin beats. He sang all his hit songs along with sexy dancers and pyrotechnics. It was an amazing show.
There was also a silent auction of goods donated by Bal Harbour Shops.
Truly a fun and unique evening.
