Introducing a new kid on the block- Sushi Bichi, a captivating Japanese-inspired culinary haven located at 7330 Ocean Terrace, positioned just steps from the beach. The name itself-a clever play on “beachy” and “bichi”- hints at the restaurant’s playful charm and coastal vibes.

Under the leadership of executive chefs Byron Albado and sushi chef Shoyo Lida, Sushi Bichi promises a journey through pan-coastal culinary delights. As you step through the ceremonial Japanese Torii gate into an expansive 4,200 square-foot outdoor space, you are greeted by a vibrant ambiance brimming with energy.

The focal point is undoubtedly the bustling bar, a magnet for locals, neighbors, and tourists alike. The warm and genuine welcome sets the tone for a memorable dining experience. While most of the seating areas are open to the elements, a few covered spots offer respite from mother nature, although plans are underway to ensure comfort year-round, with heaters for chilly evenings and fans or coolers for the impending summer heat.

Amidst the lush greenery and wooden beams that delineate separate dining areas, the massive menu beckons with much diversity. This is always a concern for me. Spanning culinary influences from Japan, the Philippines, Mexico, Peru, the West Indies, and the Mediterranean, Sushi Bichi’s offerings range from sushi, ceviches, and tiraditos, to street food skewers and larger plates like chicken adobo.

Not to be outdone, the bar boasts an extensive selection of premium hand-crafted cocktails, a plethora of sake, wines, champagnes, and an eclectic array of international beers. For a taste of the tropics, indulge in a refreshing frozen pina colada- an ideal accompaniment to the beachside ambiance.

And let’s not forget about dessert- Sushi Bichi surprises and delights with indulgent treats like banana cream pie, boasting an excellent crust, and my favourite, a decadent molten chocolate cake, crowned with a soft, pillowy meringue. While they may not hail from Asia, their irresistible allure is undeniable.

In the culinary landscape of North Miami, not exactly brimming with options, it is nice to see a refreshing newcomer, which I favoured over Makoto, giving a twist to Japanese traditional fare and earning its rightful place as a lovely addition to the local dining scene.

Happy dining,

Shanea
