One of my favorite restaurants and chefs has finally arrived in Wynwood! I’m thrilled to announce that Ghee Indian Kitchen has opened its doors at 63 NW 24th Street, within the Amli Wynwood apartment complex. For those unfamiliar with Chef Niven Patel, he’s a culinary force to be reckoned with—a multi-time James Beard Award nominee and a recipient of Michelin’s Bib Gourmand in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Ghee previously had a beloved location in the Design District, which sadly closed during the pandemic. Since then, I’ve made the 90-minute journey to their original Dadeland spot because it was absolutely worth it (though not something I could do often). Now, Ghee’s arrival in Wynwood brings a fresh wave of excitement and convenience for fans like me.

Chef Niven’s culinary philosophy is rooted in using the freshest local ingredients, many of which come from his own Homestead farm, alongside products sourced from artisan purveyors. With his partner Mohamed Alkassar, he has been busy launching remarkable ventures, including Erba (an Italian concept in Coral Gables), NiMo (a Mediterranean coastal gem in Tequesta), Paya (with its vibrant Latin-Island vibes), and now the new Wynwood location of Ghee.

Ghee Wynwood delivers a contemporary and seasonal spin on traditional Indian cuisine. The restaurant itself is stunning, featuring handmade furniture imported from India, bone-inlay tables, and a vibrant palette of yellow and terracotta tones. The space is brought to life with intricate details like lattice-cut wooden chairs with needlepoint cushions, basket lights suspended from the industrial ceiling, and a striking mural of elephants. This larger location comfortably seats 110 in the dining room and another 10 at the bar, a welcome expansion from the intimate 45-seat Design District location.

The service is warm, personal, and attentive, complementing the bold, vibrant flavors of the dishes. Standouts include the mushroom momo, delicate dumplings with cashew sauce and crispy chili oil; the must-try dosa served with an array of dips; and the fluffy naan, great with my favourite Dal Makhni, a black lentil and cardaman dish, as well as perfect for scooping up the flavorful Bell & Evans chicken tikka masala. The new kebab offerings, such as the lamb chops with mint and cardamom, were equally memorable.

The wine list spans global regions, with options from Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Argentina, and California. Farm-to-table cocktails, crafted with ingredients from Rancho Patel, round out the drinks menu beautifully.

Don’t skip dessert! Chef Niven’s legendary warm sticky date cake with ginger ice cream remains a highlight, now joined by two new creations: a creamy coconut rice pudding with strawberry preserves and delightful ginger ice cream sandwiches.

For those wanting the full experience, there’s a thoughtfully priced 13-course tasting menu showcasing the best of Ghee, as well as a $24 tiffin lunch, inspired by the iconic Indian lunchboxes, with six items. Coming soon, Hi Chai will offer an Indian twist on high tea—a stacked tower of sweet and savory treats for $35, served from 3–5 PM.

With Ghee Wynwood, Chef Patel continues to build his loyal fan base and impress new diners. If you appreciate attentive service, exquisite food, and a lovely ambiance, this newest venture will not disappoint.

Highly recommended. Happy dining!
