Though I’m not usually drawn to chain restaurants or satellite locations, Gaia in Dubai is a rare exception. Nestled in the bustling, upscale DIFC (Dubai International Financial Center), Gaia has been a standout since its  2018 opening, offering Greek-Mediterranean cuisine in an elegant setting. The spacious, contemporary interior featured a soothing cream palette accented with shades of green, grey, beige, and rose gold. Cream walls are adorned with black and white photography, while illuminated shelves of olive oil bottles offer a unique charm. There is a market-like fish counter where you can select a fresh fish catch.
The restaurant’s energy is palpable from the moment you step inside, with a lively yet relaxed ambiance inspired by timeless Grecian aesthetics- think large Greek pots and olive trees framing the entrance. The stylish bar area, adorned with low-hanging pendant lights, sets a warm vibe with a curated soundtrack (the room gives off an LPM vibe). For a quieter experience, the covered patio rooms offer a peaceful retreat.
We experienced exceptional seafood, with dishes like sea bream carpaccio, grilled tender octopus, and wood-fired prawns stealing the show. We especially enjoyed the zucchini salad and their Greek salad, served with a creamy, salty feta. We loved their twist on Mousaka. It was so delicious, though the squid dish was a bit too tough. For meat lovers, there are options beyond seafood, and there are pastas as well. Under the direction of chef Izu Ani, Gaia is a favourite among Dubai’s royals and celebrities. Gaia has thrived and expanded to locations in Monte Carlo, London, and Miami is on the horizon.
Don’t miss the homemade soft-serve frozen yogurt topped with premium honey and candied walnuts for dessert.
With hand-picked seasonal produce and a focus on quality, Gaia’s offerings feel and taste authentic and fresh. Their drink menu features mostly Greek wines and Mediterranean-inspired cocktails.
In a city that is always evolving, Gaia remains a constant, exuding a captivating charm that feels both elegant and unpretentious. It’s a favourite among locals and tourists, and I am eager to visit their upcoming Miami location.
Recommended.
Happy dining,
Shanea
