Manita is a new neighbourhood restaurant, café, grocery, and bar that opened in Rosedale at 1164 Yonge Street at the end of September 2025. It takes over the former Rosedale Diner, which was a fixture in the area for 45 years.
This is the second location for
Manita—the original opened on Ossington in 2020—but it’s a fresh face for Rosedale. Open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., it serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The space feels warm, worn-in, and intimate, with 20 seats on the main floor, two bar stools, a charming outdoor patio for summer evenings, and a cozy upstairs room for small groups. With rustic plank wood floors, an old embossed ceiling, and a simple coat stand in the corner, it has a casual, slightly dive-bar charm that instantly puts you at ease.

The large, approachable menu has something for everyone—salads, sandwiches, burgers, chicken, steak, pasta, croque madame, and their popular carrot cake. It’s the kind of place you come to with friends or family to relax over unfussy, satisfying food. But there are also seasonal highlights, like grilled scallops over summer corn.
I especially loved the warm mushroom salad, with oyster and maitake mushrooms over arugula, topped with Parmesan and crispy bits—generous enough to share.
There’s a rotating selection of wines by the glass or bottle, with a focus on French and Italian labels, plus a decent selection of cocktails, non-alcoholic options, and local beers. You can also pick up take-home items such as jars of roasted peppers and olive oil.
They take reservations—a nice plus in this neighbourhood. My only small gripe is that the paper menus tend to get dirty quickly; laminating or reprinting them daily would be a welcome improvement.
Manita is a positive addition to Rosedale, bringing its all-day dining concept and relaxed charm to a new crowd. Come by for a coffee, a glass of wine, or a full meal—everyone’s welcome.
Happy dining,
Shanea
