Si Papa 3190 :: Coconut Grove, Miami

I wouldn’t call myself a lasagna aficionado… okay, maybe I would. I love a good lasagna,  and I’ll happily drive an hour if I hear it’s worth it. Which is exactly how I found myself in Coconut Grove at Si Papa 3190 on Commodore Plaza.

This is the sister concept to Colletta around the corner, but while Colletta keeps things simple with a Milanese veal cutlet and a few accompaniments, Si Papa strips it back even further. The menu? Bolognese lasagna or vegetarian lasagna. One dessert: tiramisu. That’s it. If you’re only serving one main dish, it better be very, very good.

From 84 Magic Hospitality Group in partnership with Kosh Hospitality, the space is tiny and narrow with about 25 bar seats. Minimal. Cozy. Dimly lit. No frills. A little art on the walls and a great Italian playlist humming in the background. No reservations, but we walked right in on a Friday night. And even if there’s a wait, turnover is quick, no appetizers, no lingering courses. We were in and out in 30 minutes.

The lasagnas come out bubbling hot, reheated in a small oven behind the bar. The Bolognese was hearty and deeply comforting; the mushroom version creamy and satisfying. At $15 for a generous portion, it’s terrific value. There’s a small but thoughtful Italian wine list, I had a Lambrusco from Modena that paired beautifully, while my husband opted for a glass of Brunello. The wines may cost more than your dinner, but that’s part of the fun.

The tiramisu? Authentic, light, and at $9 easily enough for two.

Bellini at the Mr. C still holds my personal crown for favorite lasagna in the Grove, but it’s double the price and half the portion. If you’re craving a cozy, home-style comfort meal without the fuss, Si Papa delivers.

Recommended.

Happy dining,

Shanea
