In Toronto’s Financial District,
The Frederick has opened on the main floor of 10 Temperance Street. Launched September 9th, 2025, it shares the historic Dineen building with The Chase upstairs, and is run by the group that took over the building a few years ago.
Led by celebrity chef Corey Vitello and Nick Bentley,
The Frederick seats 95 guests. The space features chestnut leather banquettes, high tops, cherry-toned millwork, white-painted brick, and thoughtfully chosen art. A welcoming front patio offers outdoor dining. The friendly, attentive staff set the tone immediately.
The menu is approachable, broad enough to please a wide range of tastes, and carries a Hillstone-like vibe — and that’s meant as a compliment. It’s the kind of spot perfect for after-work drinks, a casual dinner, or a relaxed weekend evening. The focus is on unfussy classics prepared with simplicity.
Not everything hit the mark. The “no-filler” crab cakes were a bit odd, with little filling and an unusual topping, while the zucchini fritters were just fair. But there were standouts: the house-baked Parker rolls with molasses butter were addictive, and the spinach–artichoke dip was rich and satisfying. My fish entrée arrived overly salted, but the kitchen quickly corrected

it — preparing a new plate and removing it from the bill, a classy gesture. On the upside, the burger and fries were spot on — no surprise, since Vitello perfected this dish back at The Harbord Room.
The bar program shines with well-made classics: a lovely Vesper, a balanced Old Fashioned, and a solid Negroni. The wine list is equally impressive, featuring a diverse selection of bottles from local producers and emerging wineries. For dessert, the soft-serve sundae and tres leches cake were both delightful finishes.
This isn’t a destination for haute cuisine, but that’s not the point. The Frederick is a stylish bar and grill serving comfort food with polish — burgers, steaks, pasta, salads — in a lively, welcoming space. It’s a place you’ll want to visit, whether for a drink, a snack, or a casual dinner.
