After spending 8 days in Dubai and trying out numerous restaurants, one of the standout dining experiences was at Orfali Brothers. It wasn’t the priciest or the most elegant place we visited, but something about the warm welcome, attentive service, and cool yet casual ambiance made it unforgettable. And then, of course, was the food- bold, complex, and packed with flavour. Perhaps it was also the exquisite desserts? I know for certain that every bite we ordered was a delight.
Ranked number one on the World’s 50 Best Middle Eastern Restaurant list and holding a Michelin star, Orfali Bros is a testament to creative, refined cuisine. The restaurant is run by three Syrian brothers: Muhammad, who leads the savoury creations, while his younger brothers Wassim and Omar craft heavenly pastries on the second floor. Their two-story, open kitchen setup in a cozy, modern plaza adds charm. Open seven days a week, Orfali Brothers seats just 30 but handles an impressive 160 covers daily, making it an intimate yet bustling spot. They’re even opening another restaurant next door; “Three Brothers”.
Orfali Brothers is a love letter to their Syrian roots, blending traditional flavours with contemporary Arabic and Mediterranean influences. The “Ooh La La” appetizer with foie gras, hazelnut miso, and quince vinegar was divine. The “Caviar Bun” was almost too beautiful to eat, and the “Umami Eclair”, topped with beef prosciutto, cacao nibs, and fermented quince glaze, was a unique revelation. The scallops with ginger lime, olive oil caviar, seaweed, and tomato raisins were equally impressive. The OB croquettes, featuring 18-month Comté cheese over truffle aioli and topped with black truffle, were intoxicating.
Though nearly full, we couldn’t resist ordering the smashed Wagyu beef burger- a signature dish, on a Hokkaido bun with OB sauce, cheddar cheese, and caramelized onions. Out of this world! And the desserts showcased like works of art, were impossible to skip. Choosing only 3 felt like an impossible task, but each was as exceptional as the last.
Despite Dubai’s reputation for pricing dining, Orfali Brothers offers quality at a fair price. They prioritize local produce and cooking with a focus on seasonality. Chef Muhammad’s warmth and hospitality made the experience all the more memorable, taking us on a tour and sharing his family’s journey with pride. While they don’t serve alcohol, there is an excellent selection of non-alcoholic options, and they even treated us to a delicious complimentary mocktail.
Orfali Brothers is a culinary experience that’s innovative, heartwarming, and infused with family spirit- a perfect blend of modern Middle Eastern cuisine and global influences. I’d return in a heartbeat if I’m ever back in Dubai. Highly recommended.
Happy dining,
Shanea
