Meet Shanea

From dives to fine dining, street art to vernissages, boutique hotels to grand dames, farmers' markets to gastronomic food halls, join me on my adventures in finding the hottest to the hautest.
As a Canadian, I focus mainly on my hometown of Toronto and my second home in Miami, also journeying frequently to New York and Italy, but nothing is off-limits for me.
My love for food has led me here, to share all things I savour – and I will continue to search out the best and most impresssive, highlight culinary excellence, with dishes that inspire me and regional specialties, feature art, hotels, and current trends, and offer my experience on where to roam, where to stay and where to dine all over the world.

It would be hard to visit Montreal and not be impressed by the culinary scene. One of my favourite meals was at a brassiere called Monarque at 406 Saint-Jacques Rue, in the business district of Old Montreal off Victoria Square, which is voted number 42 on Canada's 100 Best Restaurant list. Inspired by New York's famed Grammercy Tavern, father and son duo, executive chef Jérémie Bastien, and chef and co-owner Richard Bastien are seasoned veterans of Montreal's culinary scene and know how to combine classic and modern flavours. I know everyone touts the restaurant and institution L'Express on Saint Denis, but I found our meal here far superior.

Dova is Toronto's newest restaurant, located at 229 Carlton Street in Cabbagetown, near Carlton and Parliment St. Some of you may be very familiar with chef Marotta from his other established restaurant Ardo. The food here is similar to Ardo. They serve delicious artisanal pastas, woodfire pizzas, fresh caught fish and ethically sourced meats. The food is reflective of the chef's family Sicilian heritage. The chef has a deep connection to Sicilian and Mediterranean food, thanks to the influence of his mother's cooking.

I never thought I would be writing about a new restaurant opening during the COVID-19 pandemic since so many establishments are struggling, but I'm thrilled to announce the opening of a brand-new gem called Pompette at 597 College Street. Combining classic with contemporary, along with warm hospitality and a charming vibe, this restaurant has all the elements that people desire.

A new dessert/catering business was born in Toronto in January 2020, called Toronto Food Boss. Amanda and Rohan started out by making desserts for loved ones to create happiness during uncertain times, and later decided to open shop. Rohan has 15 years in the culinary arts and his partner Amanda has an eye for beauty and modern styles. I honestly have never seen such beautiful cupcakes.

Lapinou Bistro is one of Toronto’s best French restaurants. everything we ordered had dynamic and vibrant flavours. I’m usually wary of restaurants in the entertainment district because honestly there are so few that are any good, but Lapinou is an exception.
