I don’t often find myself in Buffalo, New York, but when I MUST be there I always make sure to stop by Anderson’s Frozen Custard. Luckily there are now seven locations and a food truck. I happen to always go to the one at 6075 Main Street.
This company has been in business for an incredible 65 years! In 1946, Carl and Greta Anderson, the son and daughter of Swedish immigrants opened the first Anderson’s Frozen Custard (I love the use of the word, “Custard”). Today the next generation brother and sister, Keith and Cathy are at the helm. In the 1990’s they began to produce their own handmade ice cream, frozen yogurts, sundaes, shakes and sorbets. They went on to add some healthier versions and gluten-free options, plus lunch, dinner and catering menus. They are also known for their famous roast beef on weck. This is an all natural roast beef with no hormones or steroids. It is freshly sliced and piled high on a kaiser-type roll.
But I go here for the creamy, velvety soft serve custard ice cream. It is made so rich because of a higher egg content. There is also no fructose corn syrup or growth hormones. The classics are vanilla, chocolate, and swirl. But there are also other flavours and limited editions. I had a limited edition chocolate raspberry and vanilla swirl. My husband had a signature vanilla cone. They rotate a few flavours like pistachio, lemon, butter rum or black raspberry. They serve hard ice cream as well, but why bother? There is also a dairy case with ice cream sandwiches and ice cream cakes. The Anderson’s use milk for their ice cream from area farmers. You can taste the difference and may never go to a Dairy Queen again.
They have lots of seating at this location and you can have a burger or hot dog or their famous beef on a bun.
It is the ultimate comfort food restaurant.
Recommended.
Happy dining,
