Meet Shanea

From dives to fine dining, street art to vernissages, boutique hotels to grand dames, farmer's markets to gastronomic food halls, join me on my adventures in finding the hottest to the hautest.
As a Canadian, I focus mainly on my hometown of Toronto and my second home in Miami, also journeying frequently to New York and Italy, but nothing is off-limits for me. My love for food has led me here, to share all things I savour – and I will continue to search out the best and most impresssive, highlight culinary excellence, with dishes that inspire me and regional specialties, feature art, hotels, and current trends, and offer my experience on where to roam, where to stay and where to dine all over the world.

Out and About ...
Where are you off to?

I decided to write a review of an oldie but a goodie. Scaramouche has been a consistently good restaurant for over 3 decades. It is one of the truly classic iconic restaurants of Toronto. When you have a special occasion to celebrate there are not a lot of restaurants that come to mind.

One of the hardest tables to book in New York last year was the Polo Bar on 1 East 55th st.
We were happy to grab a 10:30 pm reservation, which worked out perfectly after our Broadway play. As you descend down the stairs into the dining room everyone turns to see who is entering this " clubby" restaurant.

Dined at Toronto's Yasu restaurant on 81 Harbord st. It is a tiny place, minimalist, understated with clean modern lines, and relaxed ,holding about 13 people. It opened 15 months ago.

The beautiful new Baccarat Hotel opened in New York this year near the MOMA on 30 West 53rd.
I highly recommend you try the bar with its Baccarat crystal chandeliers, decanters and glassware. It is a good place to go for drinks before or after dinner.

Of course everyone wants to try The French Laundry at least once in your life. So go ahead, beg your concierge or use a connection to try and get you in. We have been twice and I wouldn't go back again.

I really looked forward to Dining at this restaurant more than any other this trip down to Miami. The Miami Herald gave it rave revue and 4 stars.

Untitled a restaurant by Danny Meyer recently opened at the Whitney Museum of American Art in the Meatpacking District of New York.

Zucca Trattoria located at 2150 Yonge St. across from the former Art Shop, has been around forever. Well at least since 1996. We used to go all the time but we have neglected it, always wanting to try new places. But we tried it again tonight and I have to say, Andrew Milne has some of the best Italian food in the city.

A 30 minute ride to Etobicoke to a little strip plaza to visit a gastronomic temple of Japanese delights was a highlight of summer dining thus far for 2015. Sushi Kaji is by far the best Japanese meal I have had in Toronto. However I have not dined at the Japanese cultural Center yet.

If someone was to ask what was my favorite restaurant while visiting Amsterdam this past summer, I would quickly answer Johannes. It is at Herengracht 413.

On the 23 rd floor of the Hotel Okura, is one of only 2 , two star Michelin restaurants in Amsterdam.
If you are looking for white glove service in an elegant restaurant, with gorgeous views of the city and haute cuisine, you won't go wrong with this special occasion restaurant.

We checked out all the hotels in Amsterdam and felt that this is the top place to stay in the city. It is new, clean, beautiful, located in between the major museums, the Jewish Quarter, the Opera House and a ten minute walk to the 9 streets.

Varq restaurant has been voted in the top 50 restaurants in Asia. It is located in the lower lobby of the Taj Mahal New Delhi, India.
Varq was my favorite Indian cuisine restaurant in India during our three week trip there.

We were excited to have a new restaurant open in our neighbourhood. They seemed to open overnight. The decor looked decent so we thought we would give it a try.
June 23, 2015
We tried a new restaurant in the Yonge and Davisville area called Little Sister. It is an Indonesian/ Dutch inspired restaurant. I am no expert on Indonesian food but everything we ordered was delicious, the restaurant gets high marks for rich and complex flavours.

Yorkville has a new contemporary Japanese Restaurant called Kasa Moto. It is owned by the Chase Hospitality Group. The restaurant is in the former Remy's space and is quite large with a huge capacity.
May 23, 2015
We were excited to try this new spot in Manning and Harbord formally the home of Ici Bistro. The restaurant is tiny with only 22 seats, and that includes the bar and high tops.
May 23, 2015
Located in the former Corner House Restaurant on Davenport is Flor de Sal – a beautiful, attractive, bright and nicely decorated space.
May 23, 2015
Dailo restaurant in the former "Grace" space on College Street. They call this new Asian cuisine and we were very impressed. The staff is very knowledgable and helpful.
April 23, 2015
We have been to the Good Son for dinner before, but now we wanted to try Sunday Brunch. I am happy to report that is was great.
April 23, 2015
Piripi is Merrick Park's newest eatery. It reminded me of an upscale Bar Isabel from Toronto. But the decor, service and quality of food is better.
April 23, 2015
Quality Meats from New York bring their steakhouse restaurant To South Beach. It has an Art Deco feel to the place with an outdoor patio.
April 23, 2015
Miami has a beautiful new restaurant reminiscent of a Parisian Bistro, displaying bold and playful artwork that is for sale. The crowd is tres chic, but you shouldn't go before 9pm to get the full impact.
April 23, 2015
We tried Klima Restaurant tonight which is located on 23 and Collins in the former Tosca Space. Two guys out of Barcelona opened this beautiful indoor/outdoor space.
