I am a huge fan of living in Bal Harbour, Florida. Thanks to our mayor, Mr. Martin Packer, we have had fantastic programs like Movies on the Beach, and my personal favourite, Unscripted Bal Harbour Art Focus. Unscripted Art Project gives you the chance to meet your neighbours over a glass of wine, while enjoying an educational evening together. Through Unscripted I’ve been able to visit exclusive art collections and hear fascinating talks from some of the world’s leading art experts.
On the evening of August 31st I was invited along with fellow Bal Harbour neighbours to an intimate and interactive discussion on buying and selling art at auction with experts Maria Bonta de la Pezuela, formally of Sotheby’s, who was a senior specialist of Latin American Art, and later senior Vice President and director of the Americas, and Vivian Pfeiffer, a specialist in Latin American and Contemporary art. Before Vivian she was poached by Phillips to be deputy chairman for the Americas, she spent 25 years at Christies where she held a number of position, including running the companies operations in the Southeast as managing director, managing Christies North American and regional offices, as well as heading and organizing Christies private sales division in the Americas and Asia.
Both women were absolutely elucidating in their discussion of the behind-the-scenes world of art auctions. No question was out-of-bounds.
I always find this event series to be extremely informative.
