I have searched high and low to find a great bakery in Miami for years, but to no avail. Thankfully in 2013, True Loaf Bakery opened in the Sunset Harbour area at 1894 Bay Road a couple of doors down from Lucali Pizza. Yes for those of us on the beach it is a schlep to drive all the way there but let me tell you, it is worth it. I just load up on a large order and freeze a large portion of it.

The owner is Tomas Strulovic, who was a former banker turned baker. Although he is not French he has mastered the art of French baking.

His croissants are amazing as are his beautiful breads. He bakes sourdough, olive, cheese, cranberry walnut , and several others. The breads don’t come cheap but you are really buying quality. He also makes wonderful brioche, scones, cookies, danishes, madeleines, brownies and financiers. The menu rotates daily so you can call ahead to see what is on the menu. A warning though, you must get there early as they sell out quickly.

You can wash this all down with Panther coffee (which is actually located around the corner too ). They also serve sandwiches or savory croissants at lunch. True Loaf sells delicious jams and peanut butter to go with their standout breads.

I would love to hear from anyone if you have found a great bakery in the Miami area.

I would be so happy if they opened another location closer to me but in the meantime I will have to endure the trek and stock up.

Come and indulge in some freshly baked, French inspired breads and pastries. You won’t regret it.

Highly recommended.

Happy dining,
Shanea
